Governor Hyacinth Alia Vows to Complete Makurdi Township Roads Ahead of Easter Celebration

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has made a promise to complete the ongoing construction of Makurdi township roads before the upcoming Easter celebration. The governor, who also addressed the issue of rural roads in the state, stated that the construction of these roads would soon commence to improve transportation of farm produce from rural areas to urban centers.

Governor Alia gave this assurance during the funeral Mass for the late Tor Sankera, HRM Abu King Shuluwa, held at the Saint Gerald’s Majella Cathedral in Katsina-Ala, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. He also revealed that the Makurdi-Gboko, Yandev-Ugbema-Katsina Ala, Yandev-Buruku crossing point, and Kastina Ala-Wukari highways have already been included in the 2024 budget.

The governor further pledged to continue pressing the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to begin work on the Federal Road roads. He expressed his condolences over the death of Chief Shuluwa, acknowledging the late traditional leader’s significant contributions to the development of the state.

During his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Reverend Isaac Dugu, called on traditional leaders and other stakeholders to collaborate with those in the Sankera axis to combat banditry, kidnappings, and other criminal activities in the area. He also urged the Tor Tiv, the King Makers, and the Governor to ensure that individuals with proven integrity are selected to fill the vacant Tor Sankera and Ter Katsina-Ala positions.

Governor Hyacinth Alia’s commitment to completing the construction of Makurdi township roads demonstrates his dedication to improving infrastructure in Benue State. With the inclusion of major highways in the budget, it is clear that the government is prioritizing the development and accessibility of transportation routes. As the Easter celebration approaches, residents of Benue State can look forward to improved road networks, fostering easier travel and the transportation of agricultural products.
