Osinbajo Counters Former Aide, Laolu Akande, Congratulates President Tinubu Over Tribunal Victory

Former Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, SAN has felicited with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima on their victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court.

The Tribunal had confirmed the victory of the All Progressives Congress Candidate in the February 25 Presidential Election, with the 5 panel of judges unanimously dismissing the petitions of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Labour Party (LP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Vice President Osinbajo in a statement he personally signed he stated that “the ruling is a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law. The practice of democracy in our nation has been further strengthened by the fact that all parties faithfully followed the electoral process according to the law and relied on our courts in the event of dispute.”

Read Professor Osinbajo’s message:

“Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, and our great party the All Progressives Congress on the judicial affirmation of the victory at the Presidential election of February 25th 2023.

“This ruling is a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and it’s rule of law. The practice of democracy in our nation has been further strengthened by the fact that all parties faithfully followed the electoral process according to the law and relied on our courts in the event of dispute.

“Our Nation now needs all of us, to work together to address our challenges and to deliver the realization of the incredible potentials of our Nation”, he said.

Osinbajo’s statement appears to be at variance with the statement of Laolu Akande, his former media aide who had questioned the electoral umpire, INEC decision not to use electronic transmission of results, saying not eroded its integrity. But the Presidential Election Petition Court PEPC had in his judgement said INEC is not mandated by law to use electronic transmission of results.
