Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Friday met behind closed doors with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, **Rotimi Amaechi**, at Malami’s residence in Abuja.
The purpose of the meeting was not disclosed, as neither side issued an official statement at the time of filing this report.
The meeting comes a day after Amaechi held talks with former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal in Abuja, amid ongoing consultations within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
After his meeting with Amaechi on Thursday, Tambuwal congratulated him on emerging as the party’s vice-presidential candidate, describing the former Rivers State governor as a seasoned public servant whose experience and commitment to democratic values would strengthen the ADC.
Tambuwal said their discussions focused on the task of building a broad, united and credible political platform capable of restoring public confidence, deepening democracy and providing purposeful leadership for Nigerians.
He also welcomed the recent judgment of the Federal High Court affirming the legitimacy of the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, describing the ruling as a victory for the rule of law, constitutional democracy and due process.
According to him, the judgment removes uncertainty over the party’s leadership and allows the ADC to concentrate on strengthening internal unity while presenting Nigerians with what he described as a credible alternative anchored on justice, inclusion, competence and national renewal.
Amaechi was recently unveiled as the running mate to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election. The party has also submitted the names of Atiku and Amaechi to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal ahead of the polls.
