Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that critics of President Bola Tinubu’s administration have been left with little room to fault the government, citing the extensive infrastructure projects executed across Abuja.
Wike made the remarks on Friday during the commissioning of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council. The event marked the conclusion of the FCT Administration’s 31-day project commissioning and flag-off programme held to commemorate President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
Representing President Tinubu at the ceremony, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas said the completion of the road reflected the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda. He stressed that development would no longer be limited to Abuja’s city centre but would also reach satellite towns and underserved communities.
According to the President, the month-long commissioning exercise demonstrated the government’s resolve to fulfil campaign promises through visible infrastructure projects that directly improve the lives of citizens.
Tinubu noted that residents of Kubwa and neighbouring communities had endured years of poor road conditions, flooding and traffic congestion, but said the reconstruction of the Arab/Gbazango Road had transformed the area by improving mobility and creating opportunities for economic growth.
He added that the project would ease traffic along the Kubwa corridor, improve access to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), strengthen security and boost commercial activities by making transportation easier for businesses and farmers.
The President reiterated that his administration remained committed to delivering roads, schools, hospitals and other critical infrastructure across all six Area Councils of the FCT. He also urged residents to protect public facilities from vandalism, describing them as investments for future generations.
Speaking at the event, Wike described the 31-day commissioning programme as unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history, saying no previous administration had sustained project inaugurations over such a lengthy period.
He said the exercise, which ran from June 9 to July 17, was completed without any major incident, expressing gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the programme.
The minister argued that the infrastructure delivered under Tinubu’s administration had become the strongest response to political opposition.
“If you call Tinubu today, he will show you his report card on the satellite towns and on the city. Abuja is shut down. Abuja is closed. If you are looking for anything else, you can go elsewhere, but not in the FCT,” Wike declared.
He maintained that residents of Kubwa and Gbazango now had tangible evidence of the government’s impact through improved infrastructure, adding that the road project had significantly changed the lives of the people.
Wike revealed that more than 53 projects had already been commissioned in the FCT under Tinubu’s administration and announced plans to inaugurate at least 10 additional projects before the end of the year.
He also directed the Executive Secretary of the FCT Water Board to urgently address water supply concerns raised by community leaders, insisting that residents deserved access to basic amenities.
Earlier, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, credited the ongoing transformation of Abuja to President Tinubu’s support and Wike’s leadership, which she described as purposeful and result-oriented.
She said the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road would improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, encourage social integration and enhance the quality of life for residents, describing it as another milestone in the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
