Argentina captain Lionel Messi has described a potential World Cup encounter with England as a special occasion, revealing he has never faced the Three Lions in his career.
The Inter Miami star said a clash with England would be one of the biggest matches of the tournament, particularly if it comes at the semi-final stage.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s fixture, Messi praised England as one of football’s elite nations.
“It’ll be a special match because I’ve never played against England.
“They are also a great team, one of the world’s powerhouses, and it’s always wonderful to play against sides like that.
“It’s an encounter that promises to be huge, even more so in a World Cup semi-final.”
