
Benue State is set to welcome the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in a visit expected to bring significant benefits to women, families, and vulnerable groups across the state.
The visit is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, a nationwide programme focused on empowering women, strengthening families, and improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens. During her stay in Benue, Senator Tinubu is expected to interact with women and beneficiaries of the initiative as part of efforts to expand its impact at the grassroots level.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has expressed delight over the forthcoming visit, describing it as another positive step in the partnership between the Federal and Benue State Governments aimed at improving the lives of citizens, particularly women and families.
A major highlight of the visit will be the commissioning of 10 newly completed roads in Makurdi. The roads form part of the more than 45 road projects delivered by the Alia administration and cover a total distance of 11.5 kilometres.
According to the state government, the projects represent a significant investment in urban renewal and infrastructure development, designed to improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The roads scheduled for commissioning include Ishaya Bakut Road (Dual Carriageway), Off Ishaya Bakut Road (Spur 1), Off Ishaya Bakut Road (Spur 2), Off Ishaya Bakut Road (Spur 3), Abu King Shuluwa Road, Mama Mbateren Alia Street (formerly Keke Napep Road), Dabo Plaza to Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Iorpuu Street, Tyagher Gbaa Street, and Jato-Aka Road.
Following the road commissioning ceremony in Makurdi, the First Lady will proceed to Ihugh, where she will commission and officially hand over a Community ICT Centre aimed at promoting digital inclusion and community development.
Speaking ahead of the visit, the Benue State Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Mrs. Scholastica Bensor, said all arrangements had been finalized to ensure a successful outing.
She noted that women across the state were enthusiastic and eagerly anticipating the visit of the First Lady.
Mrs. Bensor also called on women, community leaders, support groups, and members of the public to turn out in large numbers to welcome Senator Tinubu and showcase the hospitality, unity, and warmth for which the people of Benue are renowned.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the Renewed Hope Initiative’s engagement in Benue State while highlighting ongoing infrastructure and community development efforts by the state government.
