A young politician and community mobilizer in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Samuel Obe Ngobe, has been shot dead by gunmen suspected to be assassins.
Nova News gathered on Monday that the incident occurred on May 22 when the attackers stormed a hotel in the community owned by the deceased and opened fire on him.
According to sources, the two assailants, who were masked, arrived in the area on a motorbike before heading straight to the hotel where they reportedly shot Ngobe at close range.
It was further learnt that the attackers seized mobile phones belonging to workers at the hotel in an apparent move to prevent them from raising an alarm during the operation.
The killing has thrown the Ebubu community into mourning, with residents expressing shock over the violent attack.
When contacted on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the incident.
“Investigation is ongoing on the matter,” the police spokesperson said.
