Nigerians have taken to social media to express outrage following the abduction and reported killing of an Oyo State school teacher, Michael Oyedokun, one of the victims kidnapped from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Oyedokun was reportedly killed after being abducted alongside other teachers in the area. A disturbing video allegedly released by the suspected abductors on Sunday and which went viral on Monday showed the slain teacher in captivity, where he was forced to speak before being killed in a gruesome manner.
The circulation of the video has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed fears over the safety of the remaining kidnapped victims still in captivity. Many Nigerians described the act as inhumane and deeply distressing, calling on security agencies to intensify rescue operations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In the wake of the incident, several social media users and concerned citizens have also called on Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, urging him to abandon political engagements and take a more direct role in addressing insecurity in the region, with some demanding that he “step up to secure his fatherland.”
Authorities are yet to issue an official update on the status of other kidnapped teachers, while pressure continues to mount on security operatives to rescue the victims and curb rising cases of abductions in the state.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing insecurity concerns in parts of Oyo State and the urgent calls for stronger protection of schools and rural communities.
