The member representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulkadir Rahis, has distributed cash gifts totaling N26 million to 442 executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his constituency ahead of the Sallah celebration.
The development comes days after Kaka Shehu Lawan reportedly distributed N135.65 million to APC executives within the same constituency for the festive period.
According to Rahis, the cash disbursement was part of his long-standing tradition of supporting party loyalists, stakeholders, and grassroots officials during festive celebrations. He made the remarks while addressing party executives in a post shared on Facebook.
The event attracted APC executives, ward officials, supporters, and stakeholders from different parts of the constituency.
Rahis recently emerged winner of the APC primary election for the constituency after polling 20,509 votes, securing the party’s ticket for the next general election.
If re-elected, the lawmaker would return to the House of Representatives for a fifth consecutive term. Before his election into the National Assembly, Rahis had also served five terms as chairman of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
However, the distribution of large sums of cash by political office holders has continued to generate debate online.
