2027: ADC Defies Court Order, INEC, Holds National Convention in Abuja

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, on Wednesday went ahead with its National Convention in Abuja despite a subsisting court order and alleged political efforts to block the event.

The convention, held in the nation’s capital, drew party leaders and delegates from across the country, who gathered to deliberate on the party’s future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the event, stakeholders unanimously ratified the party’s constitution as well as the processes that produced Mark as a leading figure within the party structure. The gathering also reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to strengthening its internal democracy and positioning itself as a formidable force in the next electoral cycle.

The decision to proceed with the convention comes amid reported attempts to deny the party access to its planned venue, alongside legal challenges believed to be aimed at halting the exercise.

Despite these obstacles, party officials maintained that the convention was conducted in line with democratic principles and the party’s constitution, stressing that no external pressure would deter its activities.

The development signals rising political tensions as parties intensify preparations and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with the ADC positioning itself as a key contender on the national stage.
