Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, eliminating no fewer than 38 insurgents in the process.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, targeted the Mandaragirau axis in Sector 2, where terrorists launched multi-front assaults on military positions.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, Sani Uba, troops responded with a well-coordinated offensive that overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them into a disorderly retreat.
According to the statement, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support during the engagement, significantly enhancing the troops’ firepower and contributing to the success of the mission.
“Troops engaged the attackers with a well-coordinated offensive response, forcing the criminals to withdraw in disarray, while air support ensured sustained pressure on the fleeing insurgents,” Uba stated.
He further disclosed that follow-up operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes inflicted additional losses, bringing the total number of eliminated insurgents to 38.
Field reports and confirmations from local sources indicated that more than 30 additional terrorist bodies were discovered along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis, extending into the Timbuktu Triangle.
Several weapons and other items were also recovered from the scene, as troops continue exploitation and clearance operations in the area to prevent any regrouping by the insurgents.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist elements across the North East, assuring residents of continued efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
