Chrisland Student Naomi Olayinka Named World’s Best in English at 2024 Cambridge IGCSE

A 16-year-old student of Chrisland Schools, Naomi Olayinka, has been named the world’s best performer in English as a Second Language in the 2024 Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations.

The recognition, announced by Cambridge Assessment International Education, celebrates Olayinka’s exceptional performance in the June 2024 exam series. Her achievement marks another milestone for Chrisland Schools, known for consistently producing globally ranked students.

In an interview, Naomi described the honour as a dream come true, attributing her success to faith, discipline, and the unwavering support of her parents and teachers.

“At first, I was completely speechless. When it finally sank in, I just felt grateful to God, my teachers, and my parents. It’s truly surreal knowing that the hard work paid off,” she said.

Naomi joins a growing list of Chrisland scholars who have earned global recognition. In 2023, another student, Mmesomachukwu Okonkwo, received the same “Top in the World” distinction in English. Naomi said this legacy inspired her to aim higher.

“It feels amazing to continue such a proud tradition. Chrisland encourages us to pursue excellence, and seeing others achieve this made me believe it was possible. I hope my success motivates others too,” she added.

Her passion for English, she explained, comes from its ability to unite people and express emotions. “English allows us to think deeply and connect with others. I find that beautiful,” she said.

Discussing her preparation, Naomi said she maintained a consistent study schedule combining daily practice, essay writing, and leisure reading. “I read novels, newspapers, and articles to broaden my vocabulary and perspective,” she noted.

The journey, however, was not without challenges. “There were times I felt overwhelmed balancing my studies and leadership duties as Assembly Prefect. But I learned to trust the process, stay focused, and lean on prayer, my teachers, and my family for strength,” she shared.

The Director of Schools, Mrs. Ayoola Akinyeye, described Naomi’s achievement as a reflection of Chrisland’s sustained pursuit of academic excellence. “At Chrisland, excellence is our standard. Each year, our students distinguish themselves in national and international examinations, reaffirming our place among the world’s leading educational institutions,” she said.

Dr. Olajide Onigbogi, the Executive Head of Schools (Communications) and Regional Head of Abuja and VGC Schools, commended the culture of consistency that fuels such success. “Excellence at Chrisland is not coincidental—it is deliberate. Our approach combines discipline, professionalism, and a love for learning,” he stated.

Naomi’s global recognition reinforces Chrisland’s reputation for nurturing intellectually curious, resilient, and globally competitive students ready to shape the future.
