Sokoto APC Declares Tambuwal’s Political Career “Over”

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Sadiq Achida, has launched a blistering criticism of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, declaring him “politically retired.”

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Achida argued that Tambuwal had no independent political base, claiming his rise to prominence was largely due to the influence of political godfathers, particularly Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

“No Abuja alliance, no media propaganda, no recycled coalition can revive a politician whose only legacy is propaganda and a collapsed state,” Achida asserted.

Tambuwal’s Record Under Fire

Tambuwal, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is reportedly exploring coalition moves with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aimed at challenging the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Sokoto Governor Ahmed Aliyu.

However, Achida dismissed his chances, describing Tambuwal’s eight-year administration as an era of “stagnation, abandoned projects, and asset stripping.”

He further alleged that Tambuwal deliberately refused to formally hand over to his successor in 2023 to avoid accountability, leaving behind numerous incomplete projects.

“Tambuwal’s actions were calculated to frustrate the present administration,” Achida claimed.

Praise for Governor Aliyu

In contrast, the APC chairman commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as prudent financial management, noting that salaries are paid promptly, the new minimum wage has been implemented, and key infrastructure projects are ongoing — all without borrowing.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu is focused on the welfare of the people, not looting their resources,” Achida said.

Tambuwal Camp Reacts

When contacted, a close aide to Tambuwal, who requested anonymity, dismissed the APC chairman’s remarks as “baseless,” adding that a formal response would be issued after due consultation with the former governor.
