The bandits reportedly demanded huge ransoms and initially attempted to flee with the hostages. However, troops swiftly mobilized both ground forces and Nigerian Air Force assets to the affected areas.
“On sighting NAF aircraft, the bandits became disoriented. They released the victims into the surrounding bushes and attempted to escape on motorcycles. Six women managed to escape that same day,” Makama stated.
He added that sustained bombardments and relentless ground pursuit ultimately compelled the bandits to release all the remaining hostages.
The release comes barely a week after the military launched heavy strikes on bandit camps in Gyado Forest, where over 100 fighters, including top commanders, were reportedly neutralized.
Operation FANSAN YANMA has intensified in recent weeks across Zamfara and neighboring states, with the military vowing to sustain pressure until criminal networks are dismantled.
