The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned four suspects before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over alleged cases of defilement of minors and sexual and gender-based violence. The suspects were subsequently remanded in the Awka Correctional Centre pending further court proceedings.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects’ cases have been forwarded to the court, although details of the offenses were not disclosed. Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized the command’s commitment to protecting children and vulnerable groups, warning that perpetrators of such crimes will face the full weight of the law.
In related incidents, the Anambra police have arrested suspects accused of similar crimes, including:
– *Uchenna Nweke*, 18, who allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl in Ebenebe community
– *Emmanuel Sampson*, who allegedly lured his neighbor’s 8-year-old daughter with food before defiling her
– *ThankGod Damian*, a security guard accused of assaulting a 13-year-old girl in an uncompleted building
The police command has reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding children and other vulnerable groups, ensuring that offenders face justice.
