Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that his support in the 2027 general elections will be for a candidate committed to Nigeria’s growth and national interest.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike explained that his decision is rooted in a desire to prevent Nigeria from “going backwards,” stressing that sentiment and emotions would not determine his choice.
“I will support somebody who I know will make Nigeria grow, somebody who has the interest of Nigeria. I don’t believe in sentiment or mere emotion, I don’t do that,” he said.
The former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that no one serves the interest of the party more than he does. He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with certain developments within the PDP, particularly in relation to its constitution.
“The party worked against the constitution of the party. My conscience is clear, I stand for justice, fairness, and equity. In 2027, it will still be power moving to the South,” Wike declared.
He also hinted at possible legal action against the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), should due process not be followed in convening meetings.
“If no notice of meeting has been served as a member of NEC, I have every right to challenge it and nobody can deny me my right as far as I’m concerned. Our group will be meeting tomorrow and we will not allow injustice to prevail,” Wike stated.
Wike further defended his political stance, noting that he is not the first politician to serve in one party while also having ties with another.
“I’m a Nigerian and can contribute to the progress of this country. I’m not the first person who has served in one party while belonging to another party,” he said.
The minister’s remarks come amid heightened political discourse over zoning, with Wike insisting that power in 2027 should shift to the South.
