Tinubu Names IBB’s Son, Others to Head Key Government Agencies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new wave of appointments into federal agencies, naming Muhammad Babangida, son of former military leader General Ibrahim Babangida, as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

 

This was announced on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement outlining the list of newly appointed leaders across various strategic institutions.

 

Muhammad Babangida, 53, holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Switzerland. He also completed an Executive Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.

 

According to the statement, the appointments are part of Tinubu’s commitment to reinvigorate key agencies with competent individuals who can drive reform, strengthen economic governance, and ensure policy alignment across sectors.

Muhammad Babangida (Niger State): Chairman, Bank of Agriculture

 

Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State): Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority

 

Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State): Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council

 

Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano State): Chairman, Standards Organisation of Nigeria

 

Sanusi Musa (SAN) (Kano State): Chairman, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution

 

Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State): Director-General, Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa

 

Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara State): Director-General, Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations

 

Mrs. Tomi Somefun (Oyo State): Managing Director, National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission

 

Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State): Executive Director, Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission

 

The appointments are expected to bolster the capacity of the federal government to deliver on its Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in agriculture, trade, education, peacebuilding, and infrastructure development.

 

President Tinubu has consistently emphasised the importance of professional competence, regional representation, and institutional reform in selecting leaders to head government agencies.
