Less than a week after Nigerian hairstylist Ifeoluwa Akinwunmi was arrested in India with drugs valued at over ₦1.8 billion, another Nigerian national, identified as Chikuwuma, has been apprehended for a similar offence.
According to India Today on Tuesday, Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested Chikuwuma during a raid, seizing MDMA and crystal substances worth approximately ₹1.2 crore (about ₦214 million).
The report stated that Chikuwuma was caught distributing narcotics in the Avalahalli area of northern Bengaluru. Police believe he is part of an international drug trafficking network.
The CCB’s Narcotics Wing, which carried out the raid, revealed that Chikuwuma had been involved in trafficking activities since 2013. He allegedly imported narcotics from abroad, distributing them mainly around the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Authorities said he had been under surveillance for several weeks before his arrest, as part of a wider operation aimed at dismantling international drug syndicates.
“Efforts are ongoing to trace others involved,” the report noted.
Chikuwuma remains in custody as investigations continue. His arrest adds to the growing list of Nigerian nationals facing prosecution in India for drug-related crimes.
