The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adewale Ajao, has directed the immediate arrest of a woman accused of physically and emotionally abusing a 14-year-old girl who was working as a domestic worker in Abuja. The directive follows the circulation of a disturbing video online, where the victim, identified as Bashariya, narrated her ordeal.
In the video, Bashariya revealed she was from Zamfara State and had been brought to Abuja to work as a maid after her parents fled their community due to bandit attacks. She alleged that her employer frequently deprived her of food, beat her, and burned her, leaving visible scars on her body.
FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the police action, stating, “Although the incident was not initially reported to the police, the Commissioner of Police, Adewale Ajao, has directed all Divisional Police Officers within the FCT to urgently identify and arrest the woman involved.”
Ajao condemned the abuse, emphasizing that anyone unable to properly care for a child should not take on such responsibility. “No child should be made to suffer such cruelty,” he stressed. The police are now working to locate and apprehend the suspect.
