Governor Alex Otti Says 2027 Re-Election Bid Depends on Divine Direction

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has stated that any decision on whether he will seek a second term in the 2027 governorship election will be guided by divine consultation. The governor made this declaration while responding to a public endorsement of his leadership by the Oha Isiala Ngwa people during a civic reception held at Sam Ihesiulor Stadium, Okpuala Ngwa, encompassing Isiala Ngwa North and South local government areas.

Describing the endorsement as a strong validation of his administration’s progress so far, Otti thanked the people for their support but emphasized that his political future remains in God’s hands.

“Just like 2023 was in the hands of God, 2027 will also be in the hands of God,” the governor said, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Njoku Ukoha. “I would only say that I will go back and consult with my God. And as time goes on, my response will be made public. Because, as I said the other day, I know my people are waiting.”

Governor Otti also used the occasion to highlight ongoing infrastructure projects and his administration’s commitment to inclusive development across Abia State. Notably, he announced that the much-anticipated Mgboko–Ntigha road project is on track for completion by December.

Addressing criticism surrounding the location of the proposed Abia Airport in Nsulu, Otti clarified that the decision was based on technical feasibility, not political bias. He further disclosed that compensation had been fully paid to all affected landowners.

“We are not just building an airport; we are building an airport city,” the governor explained. “A three or four-star hotel is going to be there, and even the Nigerian Air Force is going to have a base there. There are going to be markets and shopping plazas within the facility.”

Regarding compensation, Otti affirmed: “We have paid 100 per cent compensation to everybody whose land was affected. If there’s anyone that has not been paid, it is not our fault. Maybe they provided the wrong account number or there are three or four people struggling for the same space.”

The governor’s remarks have sparked fresh conversations around Abia’s political landscape, especially as preparations for the 2027 election begin to take shape. While supporters continue to press for Otti’s re-election, the governor remains steadfast in his position that only divine guidance will determine his next move.
