Dangote Hails Tinubu’s Energy Appointments, Launches 2025 YGL Fellowship

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic appointments in Nigeria’s energy sector, describing them as a bold move toward reform and revitalisation.

During a courtesy visit to President Tinubu, Dangote commended the appointments of Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Ahmadu Musa Kida as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). He praised the new leadership team as a blend of technical expertise and managerial excellence critical for repositioning the national oil company.

“This formidable and professionally competent team is eminently qualified to take NNPCL to a greater height,” Dangote stated. “They reflect the President’s strategic intent to drive reform and innovation across the energy sector.”

Dangote also expressed optimism that the new leadership will effectively tackle systemic challenges and align with Tinubu’s vision of transforming Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy.

In response to questions regarding his ongoing struggle to protect his $20 billion refinery project, Dangote clarified that his earlier comments about “fighting oil sector cabals” were not directed at NNPCL’s new leadership. He reiterated that the current NNPCL management has been supportive of his refinery’s development, while blaming some major oil marketers and traders for efforts to undermine economic reform.

He noted that recent NNPCL reforms signal a renewed commitment to transparency, efficiency, and accountability. “The calibre of individuals at the helm and their reform-driven agenda show a strong dedication to performance and professionalism,” Dangote said.

Meanwhile, the Aliko Dangote Foundation has announced the recipients of the 2025 Aliko Dangote Fellowship, in partnership with the Forum of Young Global Leaders (YGL). The fellowship supports a cohort of outstanding African changemakers inducted into the prestigious YGL Class of 2025.

Now in its 14th year, the fellowship funds full participation in the World Economic Forum’s YGL programme, offering recipients a three-year leadership journey, world-class education, and platforms to drive impactful change.

The 2025 class includes standout figures such as Kenyan CEO Hilda Kragah, Malagasy climate minister Max Fontaine, and Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Iyamah. Other honorees include public servants, entrepreneurs, and creatives from across Africa who exemplify transformative, purpose-driven leadership.

Zakari Momodu, Projects Director at the Aliko Dangote Foundation, highlighted the need for African representation in global policy and leadership. “Africa’s voice must be heard and respected at the highest levels,” he said.

Reflecting on the fellowship’s legacy, past recipients such as former Nigerian Ambassador Debo Adesina and journalist Simon Kolawole praised the programme for shaping future leaders and advancing global engagement.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation, established in 1994 and endowed with $1.25 billion, remains the largest private foundation in sub-Saharan Africa. Its mission includes improving child nutrition, health, education, and economic empowerment through high-impact, sustainable interventions.
