A tragic incident has rocked Bakin Kasuwa Quarters in Sara District of Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State, as a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, allegedly murdered his own father, 57-year-old Salisu Abubakar.
According to a local resident who spoke to Hobnob News, the gruesome act occurred on Monday night, May 5, 2025. Family members reportedly woke up to find Salisu Abubakar covered in blood, bearing multiple machete wounds across his body. The injured father was rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Birnin Kudu, where a medical doctor pronounced him dead.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated in an official release:
“Today, Monday, May 5, 2025, at about 1000hrs, information at the Command’s disposal revealed that one Muhammad Salisu, 20 years, of Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District, Gwaram LGA, attacked his biological father with a machete.”
The police reported that the victim sustained severe injuries to his shoulder, neck, and chest. Promptly reacting to the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Sara led a patrol team to the scene, evacuated the victim, and arrested the suspect. A machete, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for thorough investigation. SP Shiisu noted that upon conclusion of the investigation, Muhammad Salisu will be charged to court.
The motive behind the brutal act remains unclear as investigations continue. The late Salisu Abubakar has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
