The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, also known as the Old Bailey, has scheduled June 3, 2025, for the trial of Marcus Monzo, a Spanish-Brazilian man accused of the brutal murder of 14-year-old Nigerian student, Daniel Anjorin, in London.
Monzo, who refers to himself as a “mystic musician,” faces multiple charges linked to a violent rampage that occurred in Hainault, North-East London, on April 30, 2024. During the attack, Monzo allegedly used two Japanese swords to fatally slash Anjorin in the chest and neck as the teenager made his way to school.
British media, including Daily Mail UK, report that the 37-year-old suspect is also accused of injuring four other individuals during the 20-minute knife attack and seriously wounding Police Inspector Moloy Campbell.
Appearing in court on Friday, Monzo pleaded not guilty to eight of the ten charges brought against him, including murder, four counts of attempted murder, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. However, he admitted to possessing two offensive weapons — a katana and a tanto katana sword.
Monzo is also alleged to have driven a van into a fence on Laing Close, hitting pedestrian Donato Iwule before launching a sword attack on several bystanders. Tragically, Daniel Anjorin was among the victims and later died in the hospital from severe knife injuries.
The case has drawn widespread attention and outrage, particularly within the Nigerian and Black British communities. Hobnob News will continue to monitor the proceedings and provide updates as the trial unfolds.
