The Benue State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by a new Commissioner of Police, CP Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent, PhD., psc., mnips. The seasoned officer officially took over command on April 27, 2025.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Anene Sewuese Catherine, CP Emenari brings with him over three decades of extensive policing experience, having served across various operational, investigative, and administrative roles in different states, including Zamfara, Imo, Katsina, Anambra, Cross River, Osun, Ogun, Abia, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
An indigene of Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, CP Emenari holds a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos. He later advanced his academic pursuit by obtaining a Master’s degree and a PhD in Literature in English from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His policing career began in 1992 when he enlisted in the Nigeria Police Academy.
CP Emenari’s extensive career includes leadership roles as Unit Commander in various Mobile Police Force (PMF) Units in Katsina, Awka, and Calabar. Internationally, he served as a Contingent Commander for the Nigeria Police at the United Nations Mission in Sudan, as well as Deputy Security Advisor in Eastern Equatorial State, South Sudan.
He has also held key domestic positions, such as Commandant of the Police College of Information Technology in Abeokuta and Area Commander at Akwete Area Command in Abia State. Prior to his posting to Benue, he served as the Force Provost Marshal.
The new Commissioner has completed various specialized trainings, including the Unit Combat Course, Armored Personnel Carrier Course, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja.
Upon assuming office, CP Emenari pledged his commitment to strengthening community policing, enhancing partnerships, boosting security measures, and deploying available resources effectively to safeguard lives and property across Benue State.
The Benue State Police Command expressed confidence in CP Emenari’s leadership, assuring residents of improved security and proactive policing under his stewardship.
