Obidient Movement Faction Merges with Tinubu Support Group, Backs 2027 Re-election Bid

A faction of the Obidient Movement, under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmad Abulfathi, has officially merged its national, zonal, state, local government, and ward political structures into the Nationwide Tinubu Connect Associates (NTCA). The development took place over the weekend, marking a significant political shift within the movement.

This move followed a strategic meeting held in Lagos between representatives of the Obidient Movement and Henry Nwabueze, the National Leader of NTCA. During the discussions, all 36 state coordinators of the Obidient Movement unanimously endorsed the merger, committing to fully integrate into the NTCA structure to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.

Ahmad Abulfathi, in a public statement, described the merger as a calculated step towards reinforcing national unity and advancing the development plans of the current administration. He noted that the movement intends to channel its personnel and available resources through the NTCA to help realise the president’s second-term vision.

The 36 state coordinators, representing the grassroots strength of the Obidient Movement, agreed to dissolve their existing structures at various levels and align them with NTCA. This collective decision is aimed at boosting the campaign efforts of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

“In the spirit of fairness and unity, we urge Mr Peter Obi and other intending contestants for the 2027 presidential election to jettison their ambitions for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the group declared.

They further argued that Nigeria must not disrupt or abandon what they referred to as the “laudable structures of development courageously built by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.” These include key reforms and initiatives such as the removal of fuel subsidy, autonomy for local governments, tax reforms, revival of refineries, introduction of student loans, creation of the Ministry of Livestock, regional development commissions, electricity sector reforms, improved GDP and foreign reserves, over 8,800 new primary healthcare centres, and upgrades to tertiary institutions.

“It is simple. Go and verify, as Mr Peter Obi would fondly say,” the group added.

They emphasised the need for citizens to support President Tinubu’s administration, despite current difficulties, saying, “No pain, no gain. Continuity is the intention and our sincere conviction.”

As a demonstration of their commitment, the group pledged to mobilise youth and women leaders across the country into the NTCA, which it now views as a more inclusive and effective political platform to promote the Nigerian HOPE agenda.

“Sequel to this alignment agreement, the Obidient Movement will adopt the identity and operational direction of Nationwide Tinubu Connect Associates, to demonstrate its commitment to unity, progress, and national development.”
