FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has explained his reasons for not supporting Peter Obi in the upcoming election, stating that Obi lacks the political chances to secure victory.
In an interview, Wike expressed his doubts about Obi’s prospects, saying, “You people like this kind of social media candidates. I don’t do social media candidates.” When asked about Obi’s success in winning Abuja and securing six million votes, Wike countered by emphasizing his experience in analyzing the political landscape. “I sit down as a politician, and I analyze the candidate who is likely to win. In politics, it’s not always about who is the best candidate.”
Wike highlighted that Nigerian politics involves numerous factors, some of which may not always align with what seems politically correct. He drew comparisons to Bola Tinubu’s victory, acknowledging the challenges faced by the ruling party during the election. “Whether APC likes it or not, it was very turbulent for Tinubu to have scaled through that election,” he stated. Wike noted the significant hurdles Tinubu faced, including the fuel crisis and the Naira issue, which he believes could have severely impacted the election outcome.
Despite these challenges, Wike praised Tinubu’s resilience, asserting that his survival in the election was a testament to both divine favor and political acumen. “You must give it to them,” he concluded, recognizing the strategic ability of those who can navigate such turbulent political waters.
