President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revolutionizing Nigeria’s road infrastructure, pledging to complete and expand critical highway projects to enhance connectivity and economic development across the nation.
Speaking through Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, during the inauguration of Section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road on Sunday, Tinubu emphasized the strategic importance of the corridor in linking Southern and Northern Nigeria. He highlighted the government’s mission to ease mobility and foster national integration.
“My administration is determined to transform Nigeria’s transportation network by delivering key road infrastructure projects with speed, quality, and equity,” Tinubu stated.
While acknowledging that some of the projects were initiated by previous administrations, the President lauded his team for resolving funding bottlenecks, improving public-private collaborations, and setting realistic timelines for delivery.
“In under two years, we have launched several major road projects—many of which are already completed—to stimulate trade, productivity, and regional development,” he added.
Tinubu noted that no region is left behind in his administration’s ongoing infrastructure renaissance. He particularly highlighted the benefits to Kaduna State and the broader Northern region from sustained development efforts.
He described the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano expressway as one of Nigeria’s most vital transportation arteries, connecting the Federal Capital Territory to over 12 states across the North-Central, North-West, and North-East regions—fueling both economic growth and social integration.
To further enhance access, Tinubu approved an additional 11-kilometre stretch linking the road to Aminu Kano International Airport, and a 10-kilometre extension from Kogi State into Abuja. He also directed the installation of solar-powered lighting along the route to improve night-time safety and visibility.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, praised President Tinubu’s infrastructural drive, revealing that the 700-kilometre dual carriageway would be constructed with durable concrete-reinforced pavement and completed within 14 months.
According to Umahi, Julius Berger has finished 480 kilometres of the Kano stretch, with 280 kilometres pending. He also disclosed that Sections I and III—spanning 118 kilometres—have been awarded at a cost of N252 billion, while Section II, totalling 164 kilometres (82km on each side), is valued at N525 billion. The entire project, nearing a trillion naira in investment, is being handled by Infiouest, which Umahi endorsed for its reliability.
He pledged that the Ministry of Works would return in 30 days for an on-site assessment and confirmed plans to conduct zonal road and bridge progress briefings nationwide.
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, echoed this commitment, describing Tinubu as a national leader whose legacy projects span every region—from Illela in Sokoto to Lagos and Badagry. He encouraged communities and stakeholders to support the contractors and government’s mission to reshape Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.
“This is a performing President—his Renewed Hope Agenda is transforming lives and reshaping our national identity,” Goronyo declared.
