Christian leaders in Plateau State have announced plans to hold a peaceful protest in response to the unending spate of killings across the state, Hobnob News has gathered.
The protest, tagged the “2nd Peace Walk Against Continuous Killings,” is scheduled for Easter Monday, April 21st, 2025, at 9:00 am. The initiative is being led by the Church Denominational Leaders in collaboration with the Plateau State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Dr. Gideon ParaMallam, President of the Gideon and Funmi ParaMallam Peace Foundation and a member of the protest’s planning committee, confirmed the development. He stated that the peaceful demonstration is a collective cry for justice, an end to violence, and a call for lasting peace in Plateau and beyond.
“In just one week—from March 27 to April 2—nearly 80 lives were lost in Bokkos Local Government Area alone. This doesn’t include the tragic killings in Bassa and other parts of Nigeria,” Dr. ParaMallam lamented. “We must not allow their blood to cry out unheard. This Peace Walk is our solemn response, our righteous stand.”
Participants have been urged to wear black, red, or white clothing during the march, with each color representing mourning, a demand to end the bloodshed, and peaceful resistance to impunity respectively. Churches have also been asked to wear black attire on Easter Sunday in solidarity.
The procession will begin at the PRTV Roundabout in Jos and end at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, where a formal appeal will be submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
Christian leaders are calling on believers across Plateau to turn out in large numbers, standing united in grief and purpose. The protest aims not only to honour the dead but also to demand urgent action from the government to restore peace and secure lives across Nigeria.
