WASHINGTON — In a sweeping reversal of a key Biden-era immigration policy, the United States has ordered thousands of migrants who entered the country under the CBP One app program to immediately self-deport, Hobnob News has learned.
A spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed to AFP that “formal termination notices” have been issued to individuals identified as “illegal aliens.” The official, however, did not specify the criteria used to determine those affected.
“Formal termination notices have been issued, and affected aliens are urged to voluntarily self-deport using the CBP Home App,” the DHS official said. “Those who refuse will be found, removed, and permanently barred from reentry.”
The CBP One app, launched in January 2023 under the Biden administration, allowed migrants to schedule appointments at designated ports of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border. It formed a cornerstone of Biden’s humanitarian parole initiative designed to bring order to the immigration process.
However, following former President Donald Trump’s return to the White House earlier this year, the CBP One app was scrapped on his first day back in office. The move closed a critical pathway that enabled migrants in Mexico to legally seek temporary entry into the United States.
According to National Public Radio, the termination order could impact over 930,000 migrants who gained entry through the program.
Trump, who has long advocated for tougher immigration controls, has promised to deport millions of undocumented migrants. He has come under fire for his harsh rhetoric, including labeling some migrants as “animals” and “monsters,” and linking them to violent crime.
“Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security,” said the DHS spokesperson.
Reports indicate the termination notices were sent electronically, invoking DHS’s discretionary power under U.S. immigration law to revoke parole status.
This development is part of a broader crackdown on immigration by the Trump administration. Just last month, legal protections were withdrawn from approximately 532,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, with only a short window given to exit the country.
