The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
At a press briefing held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, outlined the decision, stating that it was taken after careful consultations with the state government, security agencies, and other stakeholders.
“As part of our collective commitment to sustaining the peace and security, a ban has been placed on all Durbar activities throughout the State during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations. This decision was made after consultations with relevant security stakeholders following credible intelligence reports indicating an orchestrated plan by recruited miscreants and their sponsors to use Durbar as a proxy to undermine security and public order,” Bakori said.
He reassured residents that security agencies had made adequate deployments to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration. Worshippers were advised to conduct their Eid prayers at designated prayer grounds, as traditionally done in the past.
“Worshippers going to Eid praying grounds are advised to adhere to the following security tips: No carrying of unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension, no horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, reckless and dangerous driving. Parents and guardians should caution their children against being used by subversive elements as the Police and other security agencies are determined to enforce the law,” Bakori stated.
He warned members of the public against engaging in activities that could lead to a breakdown of law and order, urging residents to prioritize peace and unity.
“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must prioritize peace above everything else, putting aside our differences and coming together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of the State and the nation at large,” he said.
The Commissioner further encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation. He provided emergency contact numbers for the public to reach the police in case of any security threats.
“The Command encourages continued collaboration and cooperation from all stakeholders to build a safer and secure environment. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station, security formations, or through the following emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926,” Bakori said.
He also urged residents to use the NPF Rescue Me application, available on the Play Store, or reach out to the police via social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok under the handle “Kano State Police Command.”
The Commissioner concluded by wishing all Muslim faithful a happy and peaceful Sallah celebration.
