In a bold move to reinforce security across the nation, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has authorized a major reshuffling within the Nigeria Police Force, deploying 38 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to new commands and strategic formations. This high-level redeployment, revealed on Friday, underscores the Force’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and embracing intelligence-led policing as a critical tool in tackling the country’s evolving security challenges.
Of the 38 senior officers affected by the reorganization, nine CPs have been posted to head key state commands, while 29 others have been assigned to various specialized police formations. The newly appointed CPs are expected to inject fresh energy, enforce community-oriented policing strategies, and ensure prompt and effective responses to emerging threats within their jurisdictions.
Those entrusted with state command leadership include:
- CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba (Zamfara)
- CP Bretet Emmanuel Simon (Taraba)
- CP Christopher Ado Emmanuel (Yobe)
- CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosayin (Cross River)
- CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman (Niger)
- CP Sani Omolori Aliyu (Bauchi)
- CP Bello Shehu (Katsina)
- CP Saka Adewale Ajao (Federal Capital Territory – FCT)
- CP Ojo Adekimi (Kwara)
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, emphasized in an official statement that this comprehensive deployment plan is a part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police to curb rising insecurity, enhance community engagement, and ensure a more proactive policing approach. According to him, the IGP has placed a premium on professionalism, urging the newly posted Commissioners to implement security strategies tailored to the unique needs of their commands and formations.
“In addition to these State Command appointments, the deployment also includes the posting of 29 CPs to various police formations as part of a broader effort to address rising security challenges and ensure effective policing that is responsive to community needs,” Adejobi stated.
He further highlighted that the redeployment is not only about reshuffling personnel but about transforming the policing landscape through innovation, strategic planning, and community trust-building. Each CP is expected to spearhead initiatives that strengthen intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and rapid response while fostering collaboration with local communities.
Inspector-General Egbetokun has charged the newly assigned officers to prioritize intelligence-led policing, maintain a high standard of professional ethics, and work tirelessly to restore public confidence in the Force. He reiterated that these postings are crucial in the ongoing mission to secure lives and property and to ensure a safe and stable environment for all Nigerians.
The shake-up is part of a series of reform-driven strategies under the current police leadership aimed at building a resilient, people-centered, and effective police force ready to tackle modern security challenges across all regions of the country.
As these senior officers assume their new roles, the public and stakeholders alike are hopeful that the changes will translate into tangible security improvements and a more robust, responsive policing system nationwide.
