Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).This decision marks a significant shift in El-Rufai’s political career, as he seeks to pursue his future ambitions under a new party banner.
According to El-Rufai, his decision to leave the APC was driven by the party’s deviation from its founding principles and values. He expressed disappointment with the party’s leadership, stating that they have “castrated its organs and treated its membership with contempt” over the past two years.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, recounted his role in negotiating the party’s merger in 2013 and his efforts to help secure the party’s election victories in 2015, 2019, and 2023. However, he concluded that the party’s current trajectory is no longer aligned with his personal values and progressive ideals.
As El-Rufai joins the SDP, he plans to focus on engaging with other opposition leaders and parties to form a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in future elections. He has called on his supporters and like-minded individuals to join him in the SDP, with the goal of making Nigeria a beacon of pride for Africans and the Black Race.
