The Federal Government on Thursday officially designated and listed certain individuals, including Simon Ekpa, along with various entities on the Nigeria Sanctions List due to their involvement in financing terrorism.
The Nigeria Sanctions Committee had recommended these individuals and entities for designation during a meeting held in Abuja on the same day.
As per official government documents, this action aligns with Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
According to the authorities, the Attorney-General of the Federation, with the President’s approval, mandated that these individuals and entities be listed on the Nigeria Sanctions List.
The committee is required to promptly identify and freeze, without prior notification, all funds, assets, and other economic resources belonging to the designated persons in their possession and report the findings to the Sanctions Committee.
The unit emphasized that freezing measures should extend to all accounts linked to the designated individuals.
“For designated entities, this should include accounts linked to their signatories and directors to ensure comprehensive enforcement of the sanctions regime,” it stated.
The designated individuals and entities are:
