Akure Airport Shut Down: FAAN Breaks Silence, Apologizes for Inconvenience

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has finally spoken out about the shutting down of the Akure airport, four days after the incident occurred. According to FAAN, the airport was closed due to damages caused by a torrential downpour on Monday, which affected vital equipment, terminal buildings, staff quarters, and other strategic sections.

Passengers who had booked flights to the airport from Lagos were turned back and refunded. One of the affected passengers, Adetutu Muriano, expressed her disappointment, stating that she had an exam scheduled for Wednesday but had to travel by night bus instead. She appealed to FAAN to always communicate with passengers in such situations.

Another passenger, Babatunde Akinteye, said his flight was cancelled due to technical glitches at the airport. The airline, Ovaland Airline, apologized for the inconvenience and assured passengers of their best attention.

FAAN has deployed a team of engineers to assess the damage and provide remedial solutions. In a statement on its social media pages, FAAN apologized to passengers for any discomfort caused and promised to remain customer-driven while providing quality services.

The airport’s closure has been met with frustration from passengers, who are calling for better communication from FAAN in such situations. The authority has promised to work assiduously to restore normal flight operations.
