Valentine Ozigbo Hopes Peter Obi Will Join Him in APC After Leaving Labour Party

Days after leaving the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Valentine Ozigbo has expressed hope that Peter Obi might one day join him in the ruling party.

Obi, who was LP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led the party to an impressive performance but has since faced internal conflicts. Amid allegations and counter-allegations, several members have defected, with Ozigbo being the latest, citing unresolved party crises.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, Ozigbo revealed that he consulted key stakeholders, including Obi, before making his decision.

**“I told him a few things, not about coming to the APC, but I would like to welcome him to the APC someday if he so desires.

“But here’s the point: I engaged with everybody I needed to engage as much as I could remember to say to them, here are the options.

“I had a meeting with Peter Obi. I said to him, ‘I don’t see myself running for this election in the Labour Party, and I want to make a decision soon.’”**

Ozigbo added that after informing Obi of his departure, he officially visited the LP to say goodbye.

“You hear the things that have happened. I am not proud of them. Even when we had a congress in Anambra State, it was a charade—totally flawed.”
