The Lagos State Police Command has reinstated the security details of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, following their earlier withdrawal.
According to Daily Trust, security personnel assigned to both the Speaker’s office and residence were withdrawn on Thursday morning, sparking speculation. This move coincided with the restoration of security details for impeached Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who later stormed the Assembly complex and declared himself Speaker. He even presided over a plenary session attended by a few lawmakers.
However, addressing journalists on Thursday, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, clarified that four security officers attached to the Speaker had been reinstated.
Jimoh explained that the withdrawal was part of a statewide audit of police personnel and firearms, affecting not just the Speaker but other Very Important Personalities (VIPs).
“The same audit is currently being conducted in other state police commands and not Lagos alone,” he stated, emphasizing that it was a standard procedure rather than a targeted action.
