A priest from the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Anambra State, identified as Rev. Fr. Jude Muokwe, is accused of assaulting a 50-year-old widow, Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen. The priest allegedly whipped the widow, inflicting severe injuries on her. A video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the widow, a primary school teacher, crying in pain and displaying the injuries caused by the priest’s attack.
The widow, who hails from Ifitedunu in Dunukofia LGA, also teaches at Angel Primary School in the same community, a school run by the Catholic mission. The exact reason for the assault remains unclear. However, sources suggest that the widow, along with other school staff, was having a meeting in a classroom to discuss a proposed salary increase, which they intended to present to the school management. During the meeting, Rev. Fr. Muokwe reportedly entered the room and began flogging the widow without warning, shocking everyone present.
When approached by DAILY POST for clarification, Rev. Fr. Muokwe did not deny the allegations. Instead, he declined to comment, stating, “I cannot speak to you, I can’t speak especially to someone I do not know about this matter,” in a calm tone.
