Military Airstrike Mistakenly Kills Family of Six After Clash with Bandits in Katsina

A military airstrike reportedly killed a family of six in Yauni community, Zakka ward, Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.

Earlier, three security personnel—two police officers and one Community Watch Corps (CWC) operative—were killed in a gunfight with bandits.

A resident, speaking anonymously, said the incident was linked to the local government election held on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The bandits allegedly planned to attack voters in Zakka village.

Upon learning of the plan, security forces attempted to thwart it, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, a police officer and the CWC operative were killed, while another officer, injured during the clash, later died.

“It was after that incident that the military fighter jet, which most likely came to offer reinforcement, dropped a bomb at Yauni community, south of Zakka, which led to the death of six members of a family, while one woman sustained injuries,” the source said.
