The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the recently concluded Katsina State local government elections held on Saturday, further consolidating its political dominance in the state.
Announcing the results on Sunday, the Chairman of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission, Lawal Alhassan, confirmed that APC secured all 34 chairmanship seats and 361 councillorship positions across the state’s local government areas. The landslide victory underscores the ruling party’s continued influence and stronghold in the region.
During a press briefing on Sunday, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Salima Boyi, congratulated the winners, acknowledging the democratic strides made in the state despite the competitive nature of the elections.
“While we may have had our differences and concerns, we have conceded defeat and acknowledged the significant strides made in promoting democracy in our dear state,” Boyi stated.
The election saw the participation of five political parties, including the Accord Party, African Action Congress, African Development Congress, All Progressives Congress, and Booth Party. Despite the competition, APC secured a clean sweep of all contested positions.
Alhassan, while addressing journalists at the commission’s headquarters, attributed the delay in the announcement of results to the late submission of election outcomes from some local government areas.
“As of midnight yesterday, results from only 24 local government areas had been received. The remaining 10, including Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, Daura, Funtua, Kankia, Katsina, Mani, Dutsinma, and Sabuwa, were submitted earlier today,” he explained.
The election was widely regarded as peaceful, with no major incidents reported. Boyi commended the electoral commission for its role in maintaining transparency and orderliness during the voting process.
“To our esteemed candidates who contested in the elections and lost, I salute your courage, determination, and commitment to serving our great state. Participating in an electoral process is in itself a commendable act of dedication to democracy,” Boyi added.
The resounding victory was also acknowledged by Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Radda, who congratulated the newly elected local government officials and urged them to work towards fulfilling their campaign promises and serving the people diligently.
With this decisive win, the APC remains firmly in control of Katsina’s political landscape, setting the stage for continued governance at the grassroots level. The outcome is expected to influence political strategies ahead of future elections in the state and beyond.
