President Bola Tinubu has instructed his ministers to immediately present an account of their performance and challenges to the public.
This directive aims to enhance transparency and accountability in governance. The ministerial briefings, set to begin immediately, will inform Nigerians about the government’s achievements and allow citizens to ask questions.
According to Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, the briefings will highlight the administration’s progress over the past year.
Instead of hosting celebrations, the Tinubu administration will mark its second anniversary with sectoral briefings by ministers.
These briefings will also serve as a performance evaluation for cabinet members, who signed a performance bond during a cabinet retreat in November 2024. The bond mandates them to exhibit diligence, innovation, commitment, and results-driven leadership.
This initiative comes five months after Tinubu reshuffled his 45-member cabinet, appointing seven new ministers, dismissing five, and reassigning 10 others. The reshuffle was aimed at revitalizing the administration’s economic reform agenda, which has faced challenges such as rising inflation and a cost-of-living crisis.
