A heated altercation between a yet-to-be-identified female student and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael, turned violent at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when Michael interrupted the student while she was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor. The student became visibly upset, claiming the lecturer had hit her, and the disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Viral videos circulating on social media captured the moment the student lashed out at the lecturer, grabbing his clothes aggressively as onlookers tried to intervene. Another clip showed the lecturer raising his hands in apparent restraint while the student held onto him forcefully.
The university’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident, stating that an internal investigation is ongoing. According to Chukwurah, Michael claimed he overheard the student insulting him after he passed by and returned to confirm if she was one of his students.
Reports suggest the student involved is a 300-level History and International Studies student and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department. Images circulating online show visible bite marks on the lecturer’s arms.
