Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, have successfully dismantled an illegal mining site located in the Sambisa area of Kajola in Atakumosa-West Local Government Area. This operation was part of the Corps’ ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining activities across the state.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, the raid was executed on Friday under the leadership of the State Commandant, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo. The illegal mining site was identified following extensive intelligence gathering and surveillance operations focused on curbing illicit mining practices.
During the raid, several illegal miners fled the scene upon noticing the presence of the NSCDC operatives, abandoning their equipment. However, some individuals were apprehended on-site. The seized tools include a dragline, a pumping machine, and various other mining apparatus.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to eradicating illegal mining activities in Osun State, emphasizing the importance of legal compliance in the mining sector to protect the environment and promote sustainable resource management.
