Abia Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh Makes Amends with Bolt Driver, Says “The Young Man is My Friend Now”

Abia State lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh has revealed that he has become friends with Stephen Abuwatseya, the Bolt driver he assaulted last year. Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency (APGA), made this statement on Channels Television, saying that the incident was his “lowest moment”.

The lawmaker had previously threatened to make Abuwatseya “disappear” after the driver allegedly disrespected him. A viral video of the incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for Ikwechegh’s resignation. However, the lawmaker apologized for his actions and has since made amends with Abuwatseya.

Ikwechegh stated that he has built a relationship with Abuwatseya and his pastor, saying “Today we are friends… The young man is my friend now. I’m very close to his bishop, his pastor.” He also noted that the court case stemming from the incident was struck out due to lack of merit.

The lawmaker acknowledged that his actions on that day did not reflect his true character, saying “We’ve moved on.” This unexpected development highlights the possibility of redemption and forgiveness, even in the face of public controversy.
