In the early hours of Monday, January 27, 2025, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed the Chikakore area of Kubwa, situated in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, abducting four residents. The attack, which has left the community in shock, occurred at approximately 1:00 am.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived in large numbers, wielding sophisticated weapons that caused widespread panic among the residents. According to accounts, the attackers used deception, disguising themselves as vigilantes to gain access to their target’s residence.
A security official in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the abductions, stating, “The attack happened this morning, and so far, we have verified the abduction of four individuals from the same family.”
The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, also confirmed the incident in a statement. She revealed that the kidnappers tricked the victims into opening their gate, after which they were taken hostage. She said, “On January 27, 2025, at about 1:00 am, the FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding an abduction and assault in the Chikakore community. FCT Police operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene.”
Preliminary investigations indicated that seven armed men, disguised as vigilante members and carrying machetes and sticks, targeted the victims. They abducted a man along with three members of his family. A neighbor, who attempted to intervene, sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.
Adeh reassured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted individuals and bringing the perpetrators to justice. She stated, “The FCT Police Command has commenced a comprehensive search and rescue operation aimed at recovering the victims and apprehending those responsible. We urge residents of the Chikakore community and the general public to remain calm and vigilant.”
The police also called on residents to provide any useful information that could aid in the investigation and rescue efforts, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community.
