The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has renewed its appeal to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, urging him to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and align with their party. In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the Forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, extended an invitation to the governor to join the APC and assume a leadership role within the party in Plateau State before the upcoming congress.
According to the Forum, Governor Mutfwang’s commendable achievements in office have motivated their call. They emphasized that his move to the APC would enhance his collaboration with President Bola Tinubu, enabling a seamless delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Plateau State.
A Renewed Call for Alignment
The statement highlighted the potential benefits of Mutfwang’s defection to the APC, stating, “The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum, after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, has once again resolved to invite Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State to join the All Progressives Congress. This invitation is prompted by Governor Mutfwang’s good works and achievements in office. Joining the APC will allow Governor Mutfwang to join hands with Mr. President to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Plateau State.”
The Forum underscored the strategic significance of having Plateau State under APC governance. “After serious deliberations, the meeting convened by the North-Central APC Forum agreed that Governor Mutfwang joining the APC is in the best interest of Plateau State and the entire North-Central region, as Plateau remains the only state in the geopolitical zone that is not governed by the APC. Having the governor of Plateau State as a member of the APC would ensure streamlined development of the entire North-Central, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Tinubu-led APC Federal Government,” the statement read.
Previous Invitations and Strategic Meetings
The APC Forum disclosed that its invitation to Mutfwang was not a new development. “In 2024, we sent a letter to Governor Mutfwang inviting him to join the APC. We also informed the National Secretariat of our party of this invitation. At this point, we are renewing our call by inviting him again to come on board and take up the leadership of the party in Plateau State before the next congress,” the statement added.
As part of its efforts to sway Mutfwang, the Forum revealed that it had previously held closed-door meetings in March 2024 with leaders and chieftains of the APC in Plateau State. The discussions focused on strategies to secure the governor’s defection to their party.
Warnings on PDP’s Internal Crisis
The APC Forum cautioned Mutfwang about the ongoing crises within the PDP, which they claimed could jeopardize his political future. “It is evident that the PDP is drowning due to the series of crises rocking the party. Governor Mutfwang should not wait to drown with the party. We are calling on him to join the APC without delay to avoid the crisis in the PDP derailing his fortunes in the 2027 election,” the Forum warned.
They stressed that joining the APC would not only fortify his position in Plateau State politics but also strengthen his relationship with the federal government to bring impactful governance to his people.
Conclusion
The North-Central APC Forum’s intensified efforts to attract Governor Caleb Mutfwang underscore their strategic aim to consolidate their influence in the region. With the 2027 elections on the horizon and PDP’s internal challenges looming large, the APC’s invitation presents a critical decision for Governor Mutfwang. Whether he accepts the offer or remains with the PDP, his choice will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of Plateau State and the North-Central zone in the coming years.
