The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order for the arrest of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, manager of popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.
Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the order on Thursday, January 16, after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an ex parte motion.
During the session, EFCC counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari invoked the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to seek a warrant compelling Onyedikachukwu’s court appearance over allegations of criminal misconduct.
Supporting the application, an affidavit by EFCC investigator Michael Idoko revealed Chinwo’s complaint against her manager. Chinwo accused Onyedikachukwu of withholding information on royalties collected from her digital platforms and live performances.
The affidavit alleged Onyedikachukwu diverted $345,000 without remitting her rightful share. According to Buhari, the EFCC had made unsuccessful efforts to locate and apprehend the manager, necessitating the arrest warrant.
“The commission will issue a public summons if Onyedikachukwu remains unreachable,” Buhari added.
Justice Owoeye approved the EFCC’s request and ordered the manager’s court appearance on January 24.
This development follows Chinwo’s claims that Onyedikachukwu exploited his managerial position for financial gain at her expense, prompting the EFCC to initiate legal action to ensure accountability.
