A tragic incident occurred in Kebbi State on Friday, January 3, 2025, as two police officers lost their lives during a gun duel with bandits suspected to be Lakurawa sect members. The bandits had invaded Alhaji Lawal Block Farm and nearby Fulani settlements, rustling an unspecified number of cows.
According to a statement by the Kebbi State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Abubakar, a team of Police Safer Highway patrol responded promptly to the report, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle. Although the police successfully recovered some of the rustled cows and forced the bandits to flee with gunshot wounds, two police officers made the ultimate sacrifice during the encounter.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has condemned the incident and prayed for the souls of the deceased officers to rest in eternal peace. He also paid a visit to the scene and briefed the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mera, on the efforts of combined security agencies to combat crimes in the area.
