A horrific road accident occurred on Saturday in Ondo State, Nigeria, claiming the lives of 13 people and leaving one survivor with serious injuries. The fatal crash, which took place at approximately 10:14 am at Abule Panu, before Ose Bridge, on the Owo-Ikare highway, involved two buses carrying a total of 14 people.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident was caused by a tyre burst on one of the buses, which led to a loss of control and a head-on collision with the second bus. Both buses immediately caught fire, resulting in 13 commuters being burnt beyond recognition.
Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident and expressed regret over the loss of lives. Ibitoye revealed that the injured victim had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, while the deceased were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
The FRSC has urged drivers to prioritize road safety by exercising patience and maintaining their vehicles. Passengers are also encouraged to speak out against dangerous driving to prevent such tragedies.
