The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has praised the Federal Government for its continued efforts in combating banditry in the North-West region. According to Thomas Hill, the NRC Country Director in Nigeria, improved security and order have been restored to the region.
Hill attributed the success to the government’s implementation of improved security measures over the years, particularly in areas previously inaccessible to international actors. He also commended the government’s efforts in rescuing many locals.
The NRC Country Director emphasized the need for a strong peace-building process and resolution in complex situations to help address the root causes of insecurity. He also expressed admiration for the spirit of camaraderie and generosity among Nigerians, citing a recent survey that ranked Nigeria third among the most generous countries in Africa.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Concerns on Climate Change for Community Initiative, Bala Abraham, expressed concern that Nigerians are not taking the issue of climate change seriously. He noted that stakeholders have been urging the Federal Government to include climate change education in the school curriculum.
