Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has suspended the recently approved free bus services for residents across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Barely three days after the announcement, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, released a follow-up statement urging the public to disregard the earlier approval. The suspension, according to Itua, was prompted by a briefing the governor received regarding operational challenges faced by the state-owned Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), the operators of the initiative.
“The earlier statement announcing the approval of free bus services by the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, should be disregarded. The governor is being briefed on issues surrounding the operation of the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS),” Itua explained.
He further assured the public that a final decision on the matter would be communicated once the governor has fully reviewed the situation.
This sudden suspension has drawn attention to the challenges within the ECTS, with many residents eagerly awaiting further updates on the initiative’s future.
